Frida Khalo
For this project, we started out by learning about the artist Frida Khalo.
Our next step was to examine her paintings and examine her style and layout.
We were then to choose a famous person or character to recreate in a piece reminiscent of one of Frida's pieces.
The next step was to choose the clothing and scenery for our piece, so that we could describe them in Spanish.
We wrote three paragraphs describing our character.
The first was describing the setting and what the character was.
The second was what they were wearing and what they thought about it.
The third was to describe an object or animal in the scene that was pertinent to the character. We did this because a common theme in Frida's paintings was animals, which she adopted since she could not have children. They were a symbol of her loss.

I think that Frida made so many paintings of herself because she was artistic, and in pain. When artistry and intense emotion or feeling come together, they yield emotions of paint.
I think that my piece came out very well. Some of Thor's proportions are off, but over all, especially to an untrained eye, it looks just fine.
I did not come up with the image I thought I was going to. I had originally intended to draw Asgard behind him, and also have him wearing a helmet. Thor took so much room in the drawing that my teacher suggested that I leave the background out, lest the image become too busy. I also couldn't find any reference images that were from the movie Thor, where he was wearing a helmet, so that was nixed.
Were I to start this over, I think that I would make a smaller drawing and work on the paragraphs more, since they were the point of the whole thing to start with. As far as the drawing goes, I learned never to start with a razor sharp H pencil on soft paper, as it makes ruts in the paper, and defeats the purpose of planning out the drawing in light pencil.
